Chicago Releases Age-Friendliness Report

Age Friendly Chicago Results of a baseline assessment of the city of Chicago’s Age-Friendliness, conducted by researchers at the Buehler Center and led by Rebecca Johnson, PhD, and Amy Eisenstein, PhD, are now available. This baseline assessment of the city’s assets and challenges for older adults includes information and opinions from over 2,600 participants in the form of both qualitative and quantitative data.

The 19th Annual James E. & Bonnie L. Eckenhoff Lecture and John & Gwen Smart Symposium

The Buehler Center is delighted to host the 2014 Eckenhoff lecture, “Spiritual Care: What Do Your Patients Want and What Difference Does it Make?” which will be presented by Tracy A. Balboni, MD, MPH. Dr. Balboni currently serves as an Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology at Harvard Medical School, and acts as Director of the Supportive and Palliative Radiation Oncology Service at the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center – a service dedicated to the palliative radiation therapy needs of cancer patients.

Partnership for Patients Announces Impact of Efforts

Partnership for Patients Logo The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has announced that the efforts to reduce hospital-induced harm, including the Partnership for Patients of which PSEP is a partner with both the National Content Developer and the Joint Commission Resources Hospital Engagement Network, has prevented nearly 15,000 deaths in hospitals, avoided 560,000 patient injuries, and approximately $4 billion in health spending over 2011 and 2012. Additionally, the Medicare all-cause 30-day readmission rate has decreased from 18.5% to approximately 17.5% in 2013 after not experiencing any change from 2007 to 2011. PSEP’s partnership with the National Content Developer continues to September 2014, and the partnership with the JCR HEN continues until the end of 2014. Read more...


PSEP – Canada in the news

PSEP - Canada Logo The PSEP – Canada program has recently publicized two of their success stories. The first is on the successes of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority in building a patient safety culture and can be found here. The second is the story of the success that Prairie Mountain Health has been having in developing a quality and patient safety program built on the PSEP – Canada curriculum for its core educational materials.
