Abstract Guidelines

The John & Gwen Smart Symposium was held Monday, October 21st, at 2:00pm. The Smart Symposium is open to members of the Northwestern community and surrounding academic institutions who are: faculty; graduate students; MD-PhD (medical scientist) students; medical students; postdoctoral researchers and fellow; clinical residents and fellows; and research staff. Abstracts must be relevant to aging, the terminally ill and other vulnerable populations, or improvement in the quality of life and patient safety.

Abstract text should detail Background, Objective, Research Design/Methods, Results, Conclusions and Keywords. Abstracts should be typed in Arial 11pt font, not exceed 450 words, and must fit on one page. Any abstract that exceeds criteria will be sent back for revision.

To assist with your entry, we have posted a sample abstract for your review.

You may submit multiple abstracts, but a team member should be available to stand by each poster.

Poster Instructions

Posters for the Smart Symposium are displayed in the Ryan Family Atrium on the 1st floor of the Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center, located at 303 E. Superior Street. All submitted posters are presented on foam display boards and set on easels positioned throughout the presentation area.

The poster display boards are 3’x5’. We strongly encourage you to format your poster so that it does not exceed 3’x5’. All posters will be mounted using thumb tacks. 

If you would like to include the Feinberg School of Medicine logo on your poster, you can download a file containing the logo at the website of the Office of Communications. Usage guidelines are also available on their website.
